Mascarade is a sixteenth century French word for an assembly of people who are disguised or are wearing masks. While the word is older than the contemporary buildings at Nanteos, these days when you hear the word masquerade you’ll probably think of Stanley Kubrick’s film Eyes Wide Shut or a typically lavish New Year’s Eve party.
It’s official*, Nanteos is among the top 20 hotels in Wales. That’s all the hotels in Wales and there’s hundreds, maybe thousands (we haven’t counted though, yet). We are the only hotel in mid-Wales to appear in the top twenty so if you ever find yourself in the mid-Wales area you know the best place to stay.
The clocks have gone back, we've celebrated Halloween at Nanteos and we've stepped into November, yes, winter is here. But don't feel too down, at Nanteos we've got lots of Winter specials to keep you warm, cosy and relaxed from romantic breaks, pampered nights with friends and the perfect Christmas getaway.
Culture is all-pervasive at Nanteos Mansion with associations with leading European figures such as the composer Wagner and the poet Browning. It's an easy concept to grasp, they are famous cultural figures and they both stayed at the Mansion while touring the country. But what is a little bit more challenging is the constant flow of time that has washed over Nanteos bringing with it unique notions of what culture might be.
Everyone loves dogs. Well, not everyone. But I think it’s fair to say that we are generally mistrustful of people who don’t like dogs. ‘You don’t like dogs?’ will always be followed by incomprehension and a slightly puzzled look and the conversation will end, slowly. If you are one of those people that don’t like dogs then please, don’t come to Nanteos on 4 October, you might not like the spectacle of dogs having a blistering good time!
While most people’s thoughts of weddings are generally waning going into October there are a few who’ll never stop: brides to be. Hunting for florists, tracking down vintage cars and tasting the very best wines (that last one sounds familiar) while leaves swirl in the air and an umbrella is never far away. So listen, to save your fourth experimental haircut from autumnal winds, we’ll do all the hard work for you and bring everyone together under one roof: the florists, the cake makers, the musicians, the inscribers and of course the wine merchants. And there’ll be a glass of fizz ready and waiting for you. We might even light a fire.
