Plas Nanteos is a Grade 1 listed 18th Century country house. Today it is a prestigious landmark, wedding venue, and one of the finest 4 star hotels in Aberystwyth, in the county of Ceredigion, mid Wales. The hotel includes 22 hotel rooms, as well as a self-catering house for up to 10 guests.
The hotel offers guests and their pets the opportunity to explore its historic and natural surroundings. Key attractions include the Mews, once grand Greek-style stables now partly converted into self-catering accommodation; the former Walled Garden, which dates back to the 17th century; and the Shrubbery, home to magnificent trees and the tallest beech trees in Ceredigion.
Guests can also visit the unique Pet Cemetery, a stone Labyrinth for peaceful reflection, and take the scenic Lovers Walk to the lake, known for its summer water lilies and diverse birdlife. Nearby, two nature reserves provide additional exploration opportunities with woodland trails and rich wildlife.

What does "Nanteos" mean?Nanteos comes from the Welsh words for "brook" (nant) and "nightingale" (eos). So Nanteos translates as "the brook of the nightingale".

Who is the Powell family of Nanteos?The Powell family came from Llechwedd Dyrus and came to own the Nanteos Estate in 1699, after the marriage of William Powell to Averina Le Brun of Nanteos. Nanteos was the seat of the Powell family for the next 250 years.

What is the Nanteos Cup?The Nanteos Cup is claimed to be the Holy Grail, the Cup from which Jesus Christ and his disciples drank during the Last Supper. Since the 19th century the Cup has been said to claim supernatural properties and the power to heal. The Cup would be given to the sick in exchange for a gold watch or coin to ensure its safe return to Nanteos, where the Powell family kept it.
