Stayed here for a close friends wedding and was asked to help with wedding set up the day before. All the staff could not have been more helpful and patient helping with the wedding preparations! The wedding went really smoothly, the food was delicious and the sun shone! My room was lovely, really big and beautifully furnished. Breakfast was very good. Would stay here again.

  • Where is Nanteos Mansion?
Nanteos Mansion or Plas Nanteos is and 18th century former country house, located in secluded woodlands just outside of Aberystwyth, in the county of Ceredigion, in west Wales.
  • What does "Nanteos" mean?
Nanteos comes from the Welsh words for "brook" (nant) and "nightingale" (eos). So Nanteos translates as "the brook of the nightingale".
  • Who is the Powell family of Nanteos?
The Powell family came from Llechwedd Dyrus and came to own the Nanteos Estate in 1699, after the marriage of William Powell to Averina Le Brun of Nanteos. Nanteos was the seat of the Powell family for the next 250 years.
  • What is the Nanteos Cup?
The Nanteos Cup is claimed to be the Holy Grail, the Cup from which Jesus Christ and his disciples drank during the Last Supper. Since the 19th century the Cup has been said to claim supernatural properties and the power to heal. The Cup would be given to the sick in exchange for a gold watch or coin to ensure its safe return to Nanteos, where the Powell family kept it.
  • Where is the Nanteos Cup today?
Formerly at the mansion, today the Nanteos Cup is on display at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth.
